Scope 3: Discontinuation of the GHG Protocol tool

To make it easier to report GHG emissions across the three scopes, the GHG Protocol created a web-based tool called “Scope 3 Evaluator”, that allowed companies to estimate scope 3 (value chain) emissions and identify focus areas for a relevant and accurate scope 3 inventory. However, as of August 31, 2023, the GHG Protocol discontinued the tool, which had been functioning on decade-old technology.

Financial Grade Greenhouse Gas Reporting

Significant moves are being made towards standardising climate disclosure requirements by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). They are setting out structures for robust sustainability and climate-related reporting so that they are conducted with the same rigour as financial reports. Nitrogen trifluoride: the new mandatory Kyoto Protocol greenhouse gas

Big news in the realm of greenhouse gas accounting and reporting, folks: the UNFCCC, within the context of the Kyoto Protocol, has wisely decided to include nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) in the second Kyoto compliance period, which begins this year and ends in either 2017 or 2020. Following suit, the WBCSD/WRI’s GHG Protocol is amending all of its standards (corporate, product and Scope 3) to also cover NF3.
